Niyyah Terms of Use#

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Niyyah mobile application and the Niyyah website (together, "Niyyah"). Niyyah is operated by S M Samiul Haque Sohan, an independent developer ("we," "us," or "our"). On Google Play, Niyyah is published under the developer name Zanvent.
By using Niyyah, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Niyyah.
1. What Niyyah is#
Niyyah is a private, local-first tool for tracking prayer, Quran page progress, and dhikr. It can calculate prayer times, schedule local reminders, show personal history and insights, export or restore a local backup, and delete local data.
Niyyah v1 supports common Sunni prayer-calculation methods. It does not provide Shia or Jafari calculation methods.
Niyyah does not require an account. The current version has no advertisements, subscriptions, in-app purchases, social feed, or cloud synchronization of worship history.
2. Niyyah is not a religious authority#
Niyyah is a tracking and calculation tool, not a scholar, fatwa service, mosque, or religious authority. Its labels and calculations are provided for personal organization and do not determine the religious value, validity, or acceptance of any act of worship.
Religious practice can vary by school, scholar, mosque, location, season, and personal circumstance. Consult a trusted qualified scholar or local mosque for religious questions. Do not rely on Niyyah as the sole source for decisions where an error could have serious religious, personal, medical, legal, or safety consequences.
3. Prayer times and location#
Prayer times are estimates calculated from your saved rounded location, timezone, calculation method, Asr method, high-latitude rule, and manual offsets. Results can differ from a local mosque or other timetable. You are responsible for reviewing the preview and selecting settings appropriate for your community.
Location and timezone results may be supplied through Google Maps Platform. Niyyah's location lookup includes Google Maps features and content. By using those features, you also agree to the current Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and acknowledge the Google Privacy Policy.
Niyyah may continue using a saved location while offline. You should review your location and timezone after travel, daylight-saving changes, device-time changes, or any result that appears incorrect.
4. Notifications#
Prayer and Quran reminders are scheduled locally through your device. Delivery depends on operating- system permissions, battery management, device settings, timezone state, available scheduling capacity, and platform behavior. We do not guarantee that a reminder will be delivered, delivered at an exact time, or remain scheduled after every operating-system event.
Notifications are a convenience and should not be your only means of knowing a prayer time or meeting another time-sensitive obligation.
5. Your data and backups#
Your worship history is normally stored in Niyyah's local database on your device. We do not provide a cloud account, remote synchronization, or remote recovery service for that history.
You are responsible for:
- protecting access to your device and device backups;
- reviewing the warning before creating an export;
- keeping exported Niyyah JSON files private and secure;
- confirming that a backup is available before deleting or replacing a device; and
- deleting copies you no longer want from files, email, cloud drives, and platform backups.
Niyyah exports are unencrypted JSON and may contain personal worship history, rounded location, settings, and timestamps. Restore accepts supported Niyyah backups into an empty installation; it does not merge separate histories. We cannot recover a lost, corrupt, incompatible, or deleted local database or backup.

6. Permission to use Niyyah#
Subject to these Terms and applicable platform rules, we give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Niyyah for lawful, non-commercial purposes.
You may not:
- interfere with, overload, probe, or bypass security or rate limits for the website, geocoding service, or app;
- use automated access to scrape or bulk-query Niyyah's services;
- reverse engineer or redistribute proprietary parts of Niyyah except where applicable law or an included open-source license expressly permits it;
- use Niyyah or its services to violate law, another person's rights, or applicable third-party terms; or
- misrepresent yourself as Niyyah or imply our endorsement without permission.
7. Ownership and third-party software#
Niyyah's original software, branding, design, and content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Niyyah includes open-source software governed by its respective licenses. Those licenses continue to apply to the relevant components.
Third-party services—including Apple, Google, Cloudflare, Expo, PostHog when you enable optional analytics, and Sentry if enabled—are governed by their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our control.
If you download Niyyah through Apple App Store or Google Play, the applicable store terms also apply. If these Terms conflict with a mandatory platform term, the platform term controls to the extent of that conflict.
8. Availability and changes#
We may change, suspend, or discontinue a feature to improve Niyyah, address security or legal requirements, respond to a provider change, or maintain the service. Network-backed features may be temporarily unavailable. We do not promise that every feature will be available in every country, on every device, or forever.
We may update these Terms by publishing a revised version and changing the date above. If a material change requires additional notice or consent under applicable law, we will provide it.
9. Feedback and support#
You may send support requests or feedback to niyyah@sohan.dev. You keep ownership of the content you send. You give us permission to use feedback without restriction or payment to improve Niyyah, provided we do not publish your personal information or worship history without permission.
Support is offered on a reasonable-efforts basis. We do not guarantee a response time or resolution. Do not send an export or worship history unless it is necessary and you have decided to share it.
10. Disclaimers#
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Niyyah is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability.
We do not warrant that prayer calculations, reminders, translations, insights, backups, restore, location results, or other content will always be accurate, complete, current, secure, or error-free. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Limitation of liability#
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, opportunity, goodwill, or use, arising from Niyyah or your reliance on it.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability arising from Niyyah will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Niyyah during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or USD 25, unless applicable law requires a different remedy or limit.
These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot legally be limited, including where applicable liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
12. Ending use#
You may stop using Niyyah at any time. You can delete local data in the app and uninstall it. We may restrict access to network services if you materially violate these Terms, threaten service security, or use the services unlawfully.
Sections that by their nature should continue—including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms—survive the end of these Terms.
13. Resolving concerns#
Before filing a formal claim, please contact niyyah@sohan.dev so we can try to resolve the issue informally. Nothing here prevents either party from seeking urgent relief where allowed by applicable law or using a mandatory consumer-dispute process. These Terms do not limit consumer rights that cannot legally be waived or restricted.
14. General terms#
If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the remaining terms stay in effect. A failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without our permission; we may transfer them as part of a legitimate reorganization or transfer of Niyyah, subject to applicable law and privacy obligations.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any mandatory platform terms, form the agreement between you and us concerning Niyyah.
